I am delighted to have stayed at Tollgate Cottages. Very high standards of cleanliness, furnishings and equipment throughout. Lovely breakfast to set us up for the day. Very quiet location with extensive garden and views. I would be very happy to return to Tollgate Cottages any time.

Visiting Isle of Wight from California - I stayed mostly on my own at RedButt House, without a car, for nearly two weeks. I was aiming to relax, explore a bit, and think. I had everything I needed to be comfortable and entertain myself. This place made me feel I had a "real" home to come back to (or stay in) each day. Nearby Tennyson Down and Tennyson's Farringford house, Dimbola Museum and tea room, Piano cafe for breakfast, Freshwater Bay's beach, Compton Bay's dinosaur footprints, and the frequent nearby bus system were all so convenient. There is even a free little library at one of the nearby bus stop shelters - filled with so many books! The home was well appointed with linens and plenty of warm bedding, plenty of dishes and all I needed to make meals - even some herbs and spices. The dining room cabinet was filled with great books about the area and its local history. The nearby corner grocery shop was fantastic. One tip: I did have to stock up on things like garbage bags, toilet paper, and hand soap for bathrooms, but the nearby shop made that very easy. Even the Tesco and Boots were only about 15 minutes' walk away. I would definitely stay here again. I highly recommend it!

The town centre is away from the beach. There is an excellent cafe about 5mins walk away. It is The Piano cafe and I can highly recommend it. The Dimbola is an interesting museum and also has a good cafe but it gets very busy.

Only downside was the weather but that was to be expected.
Only downside was the weather but that was to be expected. Many things were closed or had limited access due to poor weather and flooding, again this down to nature, not human failure. Loved the Isle and so much to visit and see. Locals very friendly and you feel safe there, a lovely atmosphere everywhere.

The location is excellent and a good starting point for cycling and walking. The apartment is spacious for two people and is well-equipped. With the windows open, you're close enough to hear the waves on the shore. TIPS: Take an eye mask for sleeping if you prefer sleeping in after 5 am! There is a super pizza van across the road - highly recommend - check for opening times. The same applies to a Travelling Bar on a bus it is situated close to the beach - 5 mins walk. You don't go to Freshwater Bay for attractions, it is quiet...
You don't go to Freshwater Bay for attractions, it is quiet and a bit run down, but there are other seasides close. Really great attractions like Alum Bay, The Old Battery, Tennyson Down, Yarmouth etc. are close by. Interesting town centre which is long and has individual shops, places for coffee, fish and chips etc as well as several major supermarkets.

A wonderful destination for those who like to walk amongst stunning scenery with views of water in all directions, study birds, and see a variety of gardens with Mediterranean-type growth. This delightful, listed property has a huge garden in the middle of Freshwater, perfectly located for walking to the sea or onto the headland. The village atmosphere is cultivated by a combination of thatch, tiled and modern buildings with a Church and pub just along the road. The shops of Freshwater are also within easy walking distance, including an Indian restaurant with a mouth-watering menu! The bus service is frequent, so the car can have a rest too. There are plenty of places - front and back - to choose from to sit outside. A well-stocked corner shop is 5 mins walk away.
