The old city around Fatih is steeped in history which is accessible and safe. the Blue Mosque, Hadj Sofia, New Mosque and Grand Bazzar are within 10 - 15 minutes walking. The tram system runs to many parts of the city but the ticketing system could be easier. We ate around Fatih with the Pasha and Faros good value. We also visited Taxsim and ate in the Cicej Passage which was a short stroll from the square. This has many cafe with typical Turkish cuisine and good value. Also took the time to visit Istanbul Station location for Agatha Christie's Orient Express. Dine in 20's style with images from the film and from the era.

Istanbul is a unique city in the sense that you experience a lifestyle not seen in many other places. The variation of all the religious and cultural differences all living in such close quarters peacefully. The city looks after the stray cats as if they were their own home pets, and the cats are everywhere to be seen. The local side streets off the beaten path normally have better food rates and more delicious foods, unless a specific experience is sought after to see and eat at high street places. The trams, ferries, funikuler and busses are all well market and used via acquiring a local travel card called the istanbulkart. The grand basaar is something to go and experience, however I found it to be the most expensive place to purchase goods and gifts, everyone trying to give you a deal according to them however found that they start really high and still hustle you to pay more than what you can get goods for down the road or in one of the less populated high street areas. English is understood in most places but do yourself the favour of learning a few good Turkish words to make your own life easier

Loved the kahvlatis ( traditional Turkish breakfast cafes) a must experience Recommend Dogaciyiz Gourmet and Van kahvalti Evi in Beyoglu. area and Cesme Bazlama in Sisli./ Nisantasi area - the latter was worth the trek from our hotel in Beyoglu truly a sultans feast of an experience so memorable. One tip be on your guard against professional scammers at the Istanbulkart top up machines pretending to help you especially at airports but in reality attempt to distract your attention whilst scamming you of travel credit on your card The machines have clear English language options and are easy to fathom eventually so try not accept help.soullaUnited Kingdom - 8.0Scored 8.0

A bustling city that never sleeps! Plenty of things to see and do for all age groups. Particularly enjoyed the breakfast cruise on the Bosphorus. Plenty of fast/street food outlets but traditional Turkish restaurants need searching for.
